Play Therapy: The Benefits of Games for People with Autism

The best games place emphasis on everyone’s strengths. They make us think, feel, and adapt to different situations. Play can become practice for everyday life. Not only will we discuss the therapeutic benefits of games but also the experience of being a gamer with Autism. Play therapy and specifically AutPlay therapy sessions use both board games and role-playing games with great success. What is Play Therapy? Play therapy is a form of counseling or psychotherapy in which play is used as a means of helping children express or communicate their feelings. What is AutPlay? AutPlay is a play therapy and behavioral therapy-based approach for treating autism, neurodevelopmental disorders, and developmental disabilities. A diverse panel consisting of therapists, researchers, and game designers will discuss the positive impact of games on people with autism.

Hosted by Gaming Approaches Toward Education LLC: mental health providers that promote individual and social wellness in our homes and community.
